SyncMyCopy is a Chrome extension for saving, highlighting and organising what you read on the web. It is built and run by one person, and it is designed so that your research stays yours.

The short version: your highlights, notes, snapshots, clips, projects and bookmarks are stored in your own Google Drive and on your own device. They are never stored on my servers. I cannot read your content, and I do not want to.

1. Who I am

2. What SyncMyCopy handles, and where it is stored

Your content, stored in your own Google Drive and on your device

Everything you create in SyncMyCopy (highlights, notes, tags, page snapshots, clips, projects, scratchpad notes and your bookmark tree) is stored in two places, both of which belong to you:

Your browser's local storage on your own device (this is what the extension reads from, instantly and offline).
A private folder in your own Google Drive (the app-specific appDataFolder), used to sync and back up that content across the browsers you sign in on.

This content never passes through or is stored on my servers. It moves directly between your device and your Google Drive.

Account and subscription information (the only thing on my backend)

To run sign-in, the free trial and paid subscriptions, my backend stores a small record tied to your account:

Your Google account email address, used to identify your account.
Your plan status (whether a trial or paid subscription is active, and when the trial started).

That is all. This record contains none of your highlights, notes, bookmarks or other content.

Sync signals: a notification, not your data

To keep your data in sync in real time across browsers, the extension sends a tiny "something changed" signal through my backend so your other browsers know to refresh from your Drive. These signals carry no content, just a lightweight ping tied to your account email.

3. Access to your Google Account

SyncMyCopy signs you in with Google and requests the minimum access it needs:

App-specific Drive folder (drive.appdata): a hidden folder that only SyncMyCopy can use. This scope cannot see, read or touch any of your other Google Drive files, only the data SyncMyCopy itself saves.
Your email address: to identify your account for sync and your subscription.

SyncMyCopy's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Your Google user data is used only to provide and improve the features described here; it is never sold, never used for advertising, and never transferred to others except as needed to run the service or if required by law.

4. AI features (bring your own key)

AI summaries and search are optional and use your own API key for the provider you choose (Anthropic, OpenAI or Perplexity). When you use them, your key and the highlights you ask about are sent directly from your browser to that provider. They never pass through my servers. Your key is stored in your own Google Drive alongside your other settings so it works across your browsers.

5. Payments

Subscriptions are handled by PayPal. When you subscribe, PayPal processes your payment. I never see or store your card or bank details; I only receive confirmation from PayPal that your subscription is active, linked to your account email.

6. What I do not do

I do not store your highlights, notes, snapshots, clips or bookmarks on my servers.
I do not sell, rent or share your personal data.
I do not use your data for advertising, and there are no ads in SyncMyCopy.
I cannot read your content; it lives in your Drive and on your device, encrypted in transit.

7. Keeping and deleting your data

Your content: because it lives in your own Google Drive and device, you control it. Delete it from within SyncMyCopy, remove the extension, or remove SyncMyCopy's access from your Google account permissions at any time. If SyncMyCopy ever shut down, your data would remain in your own Drive, untouched.
Your account record: email me at support@syncmycopy.com to have your account and subscription record deleted from my backend.

8. Data security

Data moves over encrypted (HTTPS/TLS) connections. Your content is protected by your own Google account's security. The small account record on my backend is held in Google Cloud with access restricted to me.

9. Children

SyncMyCopy is not directed at children under 13 and is not intended for their use.

10. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, I will update it here and change the "last updated" date above. Material changes will be reflected before they take effect.
